Notes to myself from the past few weeks:
- Sendmail domains that a server thinks it is are controlled by the /etc/mail/local-host-names files, at least on FreeBSD. If you don’t double check that file, you might have a server responding to a domain name it no longer controls.
- The MySQL Administrator GUI seems a bit iffy both on Windows and OSX. I keep running into errors that don’t quite seem to make sense, although it is probably user error.
- I’ve now crashed this Popwerbook about 10 times and I’m wondering exactly why. OpenOffice 2.0 with X11 seems somewhat unstable. Perhaps I should go ahead, back it all up, and do a clean reinstall and partition it differently.
- Make sure any scripts in /usr/local/etc/rc.d are executable if you want them to run on startup with FreeBSD systems.
- Having your own server beats the pants off of having a hosted server.
- I should spend more time working on this site, and less time posting random crap.
