Just finished reading http://steve-yegge.blogspot.com/2008/04/xemacs-is-dead-long-live-xemacs.html, and still working through the comments. I use Emacs (via a Windows ‘port’), and I agree with Steve. Give me Emacs and Firefox, and I can do 80% of the work I need to do on a day to day basis. What I can’t do is usually a result of the environment I have to work in and the things I have to create (Outlook appointments, Word docs, etc). I think there’s a lot to be gained from picking a tool and mastering it, so I’ll invite you to my Emacs guru graduation ceremony in, oh, say,………2030?
I do wish I could embed Emacs buffers inside Firefox. I know I’ve seen a couple of extensions that would so some similar things, but I’ve not found something that works well with the other tools I need such as Firebug.
